Building the platform behind tailored destination videos.

ABOUT

Wonderful Copenhagen’s Congress Department (Copenhagen Convention Bureau) promotes the city as a destination for international conferences and events, where tailored promotional videos are a key part of every client pitch. They commissioned Webnorth to build a custom WordPress tool that lets their team compose branded, multi-scene videos by choosing venues, sectors, and clips through a single guided flow.

Staff move through a few simple steps, selecting a venue, picking scenes from a video library, adding an optional logo, and choosing quality and music. The tool then builds the finished film on the server, ready to preview, download, or share by email in minutes. It turns a slow, manual editing job into something any team member can do on their own, without technical help.

PROCESS

Planned in phases, built in sprints, and handed over so CVB runs it alone.

Before writing any code, we mapped how the CVB team works and agreed exactly what to build. Six phases took the tool from that first workshop to a live, documented handover, so nothing was guessed and the team was never left waiting.

1
Analyse
We reviewed the existing tool and ran a workshop to map the team's workflow and pain points, then presented wireframes for sign-off before building.
2
Scope
We locked the feature set and technical approach, building the tool as a WordPress theme inside CVB's multisite, with the specification signed before development.
3
Build: Phase 1
We built the admin area first: the video library, categories, audio, and scene limits, giving CVB full control over everything the tool offers.
4
Build: Phase 2
Then we built the staff-facing flow: a guided, multi-step form and server-side generation that combines clips, titles, logo, and music into one finished video.
5
Test
We ran QA on the tool and admin area, tested across browsers, and verified password access, video output, and sharing by link and email.
6
Go-live
We deployed the tool to CVB's production site, onboarded the team, and handed over documentation so they can run and update it independently.

ARCHITECTURE DECISIONS

Three technical choices behind the tool.

Three decisions taken before the build began, each one trading an easier shortcut for long-term ownership and independence, and each one still paying off.

Built as a WordPress theme, not a separate web app

We built the tool as a theme inside CVB’s existing WordPress multisite rather than as a standalone web app.

This gives the team one login and one place to manage everything, and it keeps the tool, its content, and its users under CVB’s full ownership.

Video generated on CVB's own servers, not a third-party service

Videos are compiled on the server using FFmpeg, instead of relying on an outside video service.

This keeps full control over quality and output, avoids per-video costs, and means no client material is handed to a third-party platform.

Everyday content managed by CVB, with no developer needed

We built an admin area where CVB can add and organise videos, categories, audio, and scene limits on their own.

The team can keep the tool current without booking developer time for routine updates.

TECH STACK

The tools behind a fast, self-service video workflow.

  • WordPress CMS and platform Hosts the staff-facing video flow and the admin area for managing videos, categories, audio, and settings.
  • PHP and FFmpeg Server-side video generation Combines the selected clips and adds titles, an optional logo, and background music, then renders the result in the chosen quality.
  • JavaScript and Ajax Interface and server interaction Facilitate interaction between the tool's interface and the server, accounting for video generation, data handling, and internet connection issues.
  • Custom multi-step interface Guided video builder A password-protected flow that takes staff from a few simple questions to a finished, ready-to-share video in five steps.
  • WordPress media library Content management Keeps every video clip and audio track organised by sector and venue, so the right options appear for each pitch.
  • Output in HD and Full HD Video quality options Each video can be produced in HD or Full HD, depending on where it will be shown.

5 steps to a finished video

Every video comes together in five guided steps. Staff log in, then enter the basics: company name, event type, next open year, sector, and venue.

Next they build the scenes, choosing one clip per scene from the relevant category, setting a title and its position, and reordering them with drag and drop, while the intro and outro are added automatically. They add an optional logo, pick an output quality, and choose background music.

A final step shows the finished video, ready to preview, download, copy as a link, or send by email. What once needed manual editing now takes minutes.

100% owned by CVB
The tool, its media library, and every generated video stay fully within CVB's own environment.

2 output qualities

Each video can be produced in HD, Full HD, depending on where it will be shown.

SERVICE AGREEMENT

Ongoing hosting and support, handled by Webnorth.

Webnorth hosts the tool and supports it under an ongoing agreement, so CVB has a direct line for updates, fixes, and new features as the tool is rolled out more widely.
