A meeting with design history: Why arnejacobsen.com is more than just code
To date, I, Simon Strande, have helped produce over 200 unique websites at Webnorth, but this one is truly something special.
In the busy everyday life at Webnorth, where we launch one complex WordPress solution after another, it’s easy to forget to pause and look back. We write a lot of code and we solve many technical challenges.
Some WordPress solutions are for our larger enterprise clients, but a completely different segment is for Danish design icons.
Yet there are projects that leave a deeper impression than others, projects that aren’t just about functionality and load times, but about emotions, aesthetics and history.
One of the projects I return to again and again and that I’m still incredibly proud of, is our work with Arne Jacobsen.
When the digital must match the physical icon
When we were tasked with creating the new digital home for Arne Jacobsen, I knew immediately that this was not a “business as usual” assignment.
Arne Jacobsen is not just a name; it is synonymous with Danish design heritage. From the Egg and the Swan to the architecture of the National Bank, his work is defined by an uncompromising approach to proportions, materials and details.
This presented us with a unique challenge: how do you create a digital counterpart that lives up to that standard?
We approached the task with a healthy dose of reverence. The digital craftsmanship had to match the legacy of one of the greatest icons in design and architecture. Every interaction, every animation, every pixel had to be carefully considered. There was no room for “good enough”.
WordPress as the foundation for design
I am proud of many of the WordPress solutions we have developed in recent years, but arnejacobsen.com stands as a prime example of what the platform can achieve when technology and design merge seamlessly.
The project required us to push ourselves to the limit to ensure that the user experience felt as organic and timeless as the furniture itself. It was about respecting the visual universe and letting the technology step into the background, allowing the works to speak for themselves.
A project that still makes an impression
Even now, some time after the launch, I am still impressed every time I click through the site. It reminds me why we love building websites at Webnorth. It’s about creating something that endures and tells a story in the best possible way.
It was a great honor to be entrusted with this part of design history and it’s a result that our team put heart and soul into.
Are you curious about the depth of the solution, or do you just want to enjoy the design?
